WHAT INFORM YOU TO PURCHASE UNIVERSITY FORMS.

*20 Questions To Ask Yourself Before Buying University Forms in Ghana- Counsellor Daniel Fenyi*

Do not make the mistakes many have made and regretted. Go through the questions.

1. Is the course of high demand in the job market?
Courses like BSc Biology, BA Development studies, BA Linguistics, BA Social Work, BSc HRM, BSc Geological Engineering, BA Classics and Religion, BA Political Science, and many others are very good for knowledge acquisition but if you want job soonest after school, then sorry, you have to reconsider them.

2. Which school offers the course you wish to offer?
Read about your dream school and the courses they offer. Eg. LEGON does not offer BA Mathematics Education, UEW does not do Medicine and Law, KNUST doesn't do BA Literature, etc.

 3. What is your qualification and what course can you offer with it?*
Your elective subjects combination determines the course you can offer. Example, a Home Economics student, would not be admitted to read BA English Studies at KNUST same as a General Art student wouldn't gain admission to read Dentistry at LEGON.

4. Which schools have cheaper school fees?
Surprisingly, Nursing Training and Teacher Training are the most expensive tertiary institutions in Ghana. Generally, traditional public universities are cheaper.

5. What is the cut-off grade for the course you wish to do?
Generally, aggregate 36 in WASSCE qualifies one into any tertiary institution. But each school, department and course have their own cut-off grade. Read well about it before you fill the forms, else, you may be denied admission.

6. What course will you be "happy" to pursue?
There's nothing more fulfilling than pursuing a course that you enjoy learning. Don't allow society, friends and family to pressurise you to pursue a programme you don't love.

7. What is your reason for going to school?
Decide on why you want to go to that specific school and pursue that specific course. Assess yourself and find a cogent reason why you want to pursue further education. Your reason ultimately will determine the course and school you pick.

8. Which mode is more appropriate; Regular, Distance or Sandwich?
For a worker who merely needs upgrading in the workplace, distance or sandwich is okay. But for a fresh SHS leaver, regular is preferable except you have challenges with finances.

 9. Which course do you have upper hand on and can pass with ease?
Many 3rd Class graduates are very good, their only problem is that they didn't choose the course they had upper hand on. Assess yourself and choose a programme you can study and pass with some relative ease.

*10. How much does the Forms cost?
Generally, the forms are sold for 150-300cedis for degree and postgraduate courses. E-vouchers are normally bought at the bank and taken to the café for the filling of the form online. The form, even with a good phone, can be filled.

11. What is your source of funding?
Critically consider your financial options before you pursue that programme. Tertiary education is cost intensive and you must be prepared for it.

12. Which tertiary training is more appropriate?
There are various tertiary insitutions: University, Polytechnic, Nursing Training, Teacher Training and Professional Bodies (ICAG, ACCA, CIMA, CIMG). Of these, access your goals in life and choose the one that best fits your ambition.
